I loved this. I followed it to a tee with the exception of using a boneless ii pound roast (I'm a one person family). I used the other ingredients at their original volumes though and it made an absolutely crawly mushroom gravy. I served it over egg noodles. The leftovers were even ameliorate! The house smelled amazing while information technology cooked. Truthful comfort nutrient and a keeper recipe. Thanks, Chef John!

I'm a fairly expert dull cooker user and have made many a pot roast in mine. I take to say this recipe went so far across my expectations as to be astounding. The true centre of this recipe is the braising of the beef. I went across my usual Carmel color and went ahead to an almost blacked meat. The reward was some of the most beautiful sauce I've ever had in a pot roast. About 1/2 an hr earlier completion I added several quartered potatoes only considering and the sauce made them the other star of this peachy meal. I've used several of your recipes over the past yr or so but really wanted to provide comment on this one equally ane of your finest. Skillful sometime fashioned America cooking on steroids! Thanks for all you practise Chef John.

Okay for the well-nigh office. "Pot Roast" is not a specific cutting of meat, but with many cuts used (certainly the chuck roasts populr in the US) this is probable to come out overly fatty. The flour is not necessary- use a nonstick pan to dark-brown the meat. If you lot desire to utilise flour to thicken the liquid, it should be added nearly the finish- long cooking will destroy most of it's thickening ability.. I have no idea what the food industry has against beef stock, but it'due south a meliorate pick here (and many other places) than chicken.

I've made this recipe twice, both times its turned out fantastic! 2d time I made a few tweeks based on other reviews. I used a 3.13 pound boneless roast (for 2 people with leftovers) and seared information technology until most burnt on both sides, ie got nice dark coloring and a overnice chaff on the roast. Only additions/changes I did were: I quartered Yukon Gold potatoes (like six-8 potatoes) and put them in with the celery and carrots at the bottom of the pot. I put the roast right from the searing pan into the crock pot on top of the veggies and let information technology rest in there instead. I used Beef Broth instead of Chicken Goop and got a great rich flavor and I added 1 Tablespoon Low Sodium Worcestershire to the mushroom/onion/broth mixture and let simmer before I poured over the meat. It smelled great when I walked in the door and fabricated a not bad dinner (and leftovers) on a cold Oct night after work! Highly recommend!!!! Cheers Chef John!

Great recipe, and the mushrooms/onions/garlic mixture on pinnacle of the meat is great; I used this as a ground for my crockpot pot roast today. The just things I did differently were to use beef broth instead of chicken broth (seems a improve fit, reinforces the beef flavor), and deglazed the mushroom/onion mixture with 1 loving cup of reddish wine (scrape the bottom to become all the good bits, then simmer until the wine is reduced), and and so used just 1 cup of beefiness broth. Null smells better than pot roast cooking all twenty-four hour period long in your habitation! I posted the recipe and photos in my blog, www.culinaryspirits.wordpress.com .

This was the best recipe i accept institute so far. I have been trying for then long to brand a tender roast and end upward with something quite similar to a brick... In this recipe I put the crockpot on low instead and used chuck roast with a lot of marbling and it was amazing! Thanks Chef John!

Someone mentioned about non tasting the fresh herbs. fresh herbs should exist put in towards the stop of the cooking fourth dimension, otherwise they lose their intense flavor. Maybe more should be added towards the end.
03/22/2013
This recipe is a real winner!! Exist certain to follow the directions through and you will exist extremely satisfied. It takes about 20-30 to prep the meat and sauce before you add it all to the crock pot. So if you lot're making it earlier you leave to work, remember that. Once I came home, information technology was perfectly tender and set to eat. I removed some of the juice in the pot and made a easy gravy. Starting time with the roux, equal parts butter and flour in sauce pan, whisk together til it looks similar frosting. Then slowly add the juice that you lot removed from the crock pot. Add salt and pepper to gustatory modality. Let simmer and boil til it reaches your desired thickness.

Great dinner and leftovers make a corking stew for later on. I make one addition. I add two tablespoons of Sweet Vermouth.
03/31/2012
This was delicious, no demand for gravy, the mushroom mixture actually keeps the meat tender and very flavorful! My husband loves to serve with egg noodles and red cabbage. Reminded me of Lord's day night family unit dinners when I was a kid only better, a family favorite!
04/03/2012
Nosotros liked this dish very much. It did indeed need salt pepper subsequently cooking. I likewise wish I could've tasted the rosemary and thyme more. Perhaps I will try adding a flake more adjacent time. Any suggestions? I followed the recipe except using a tiptop roast and adding blood-red potatoes to this dish, excellent!
07/26/2012
Delicious! As suggested past other reviewers, I substituted beefiness broth & cerise vino for the chicken broth and threw some peeled, quartered potatoes in the slow cooker about ane.five hours before the end of cooking. Also, I used a 3 lb boneless chuck roast. The meet was tender and the sauce/gravy was delicious! Will definitely cook again!
04/15/2012
Yep Yes YES!!!!! (i added a splash of cherry wine with the chicken broth...ok maybe more than than a splash) You take to sear the meat as John says, information technology gives it depth. I have also made this using herbes de provence for the seasoning
02/21/2012
Soooo good. I used rib roast in place of chuck roast. My family loved it.
03/30/2012
Loved this receipe. Used what I h on paw and then used boneless roast, canned mushrooms vs fresh, added sherry wine to broth. I dearest vegetables so doubled carrots and celery and added some potatoes I had on hand.
04/16/2012
My family said this is the best roast I have always made, not actually whatever "leftovers" left. Followed recipe exactly except I had to use dried herbs and later reading previous reviews, I added a little more salt and pepper. I got a late kickoff so concluded upwards cooking in oven at 250* for about 4-iv.5 hours. They didn't even desire to bother with eating it over noodles or mashed potatoes. Next time I will add potatoes, but will have to use larger roast if I desire leftovers or program to feed more than than just my hubby and xi twelvemonth onetime son as they devoured a 2.5 lb roast. I wasn't sure well-nigh the chicken broth, only the rave reviews erased my doubts and the firm smelled fantastic!
12/21/2012
I used a 3 lb. boneless tip roast and omitted celery due to our personal preferences. I as well used jarred pre-minced garlic, dried herbs, pre-sliced babe bella mushrooms, and just under 16oz. babe-cutting carrots to make information technology easier. I'm no chef and accidentally added the tomato paste earlier the flour, LOL, but this roast was delicious! I didn't even bother trimming the meat like I normally exercise (was running out of fourth dimension for it to be set for dinner) and the fat literally but cruel off the meat when pulled out of the cooker. The resulting liquids resembled a sauce or gravy of sorts, and was tasty on the mashed potatoes. This recipe is the very start matter I've always cooked in a tiresome-cooker. (Grandma'south '70s 4 or 5qt. old-schoolhouse cooker lol! Thanks Grandma!) I love that this is the simply roast I've found so far that included rosemary (my absolute favorite herb) and also idea it was super cool that it did NOT include creamed soup or liptons onion soup mix (non that I'yard hating on those recipes... they are actually yummy too!). Thanks for such a delicious addition to my recipe box. I'1000 certain information technology volition be a recurring meal for us here! :)
07/23/2012
Cooked a 4½ lb boneless roast (that came tied from the butcher) for vii hrs in the crock pot, for four people, and it turned out Cracking! Everyone agreed that it was the best roast and best gravy they had ever eaten; even after we were done, we cease ourselves from picking at the leftovers. The roast was literally falling apart and had it not been tied, I could not accept gotten it out of the crock pot. I followed the recipe exactly, except I used ½ cup red wine and increased the chicken stock (full-bodied) to iv cups.
03/31/2012
Simply Delicious! Fifty-fifty my 11 year old who hates annihilation other than hamburgers asked for seconds.
04/17/2012
Best pot roast I accept always fabricated. I did double the amount of fresh thyme and rosemary as per another reader's suggestion. The gravy was spectacular; I loved the fresh gustation without the overload of table salt you go when y'all add dried soup mixes or condensed soups. Served with yukon aureate mashed potatoes. Awesome meal!
x/21/2012
I seasoned with tenderizer mccormicks steak seasoning garlic salt onion salt ground pepper. Floured and seared. In same pan sautéed onion and garlic. In slow cooker ane tin can beef stock add roast put package of onion soup mix west/ a piffling water and then add together onion and garlic. Keep on low until information technology simmers lower to continue warm. Add veges to crock and plow dorsum to low. When simmers turn dorsum to go along warm. Moist non over cooked.
07/12/2013
I was psyched by all the rave reviews on this recipe. The beginning seemed fairly labor intensive for cooking in the crockpot (I usually stick to the "but dump everything in" kind of recipes) but figured if it helped me make a decent pot roast, it would exist well worth it. Unfortunately, my labors did Not pay off. I followed the recipe EXACTLY with the exception of using dried herbs vs. Fresh. My pot roast came out very dry out, and when I say very dry I mean we could inappreciably eat it.
04/17/2012
I only made this and it was great. I didn't change a thing and it was perfect. Thank you for the nifty recipe.
08/01/2012
My first endeavour at a crock pot roast - admittedly fantastic! I don't similar mushrooms, merely it was still amazing. Cooked pretty much equally the recipe stated except that at the cease I added some cornstarch/h2o to assistance thicken my gravy. My cut of meat was a Beef Eye Round Roast, 3.52 lbs. I cooked on high for 5 hours, then reduced to low for probably another hr.
04/eighteen/2012
THE All-time POT ROAST!!!!I used 1 can of chicken broth and 3/4 cup of red vino. Cooked it on meridian of the stove for half-dozen hours. Sooo good!
10/13/2012
Another hit! As Chef John indicates in the video, using the correct technique is important. Definitely worth the fourth dimension to give your roast a good sear along with prepping the mushroom and onion to a caramelized state prior to adding to slow cooker. Merely minor modify I fabricated was to use 2 cups (homemade, no sodium) chicken broth and ½ cup dry reddish wine. If you're using the 7-bone roast, plan to spend some time skimming off the fat. Served over extra wide buttered egg noodles.
09/xvi/2013
This is the best pot roast I take ever fabricated. All I can say is wow. Reminds me of the way my mom made it growing up. Tender pot roast, wonderful flavor and a proficient smelling house as well. Fabulous served over mashed red potatoes with the bootleg gravy on height. No changes for me, I like it the way it is.
04/16/2012
This is the aforementioned bones recipe I have used all my life. I have ALWAYS felt someday you braise any meat in a crockpot or in the over, it's important to sear the meat (with well-seasoned flour) to help impart additional flavor and color. Information technology besides helps to thicken the sauce/goop which is makes a groovy gravy.
05/08/2012
This recipe was absolutely amazing! I wasn't able to find a 5lb os in roast. I used a 3lb boneless. I besides didn't utilise mushrooms considering of a nutrient allergy. The meat was moist and tender then delicious! I strained the juices and added a flour slurry and made a gravy. I besides added small white potatoes and had a complete meal in the one crock pot! Information technology was delicious. My beau devoured information technology. I would absolutely make this again.
06/xviii/2012
Merely made this for dinner with guests and it was a HUGE hit. I've fabricated lots of roasts and this was pretty much the all-time I've had. I used a 3 pound sirloin roast, cut the chicken goop a bit and added a half cup of red vino. As well used dry vs fresh rosemary and thyme. Flavor was fabled.
01/ten/2014
Loved this recipe equally I LOVE all of Chef John'southward recipes!! I always add together to my recipes, just because that's who I am LOL.. anyway, used a half-dozen lb boneless "English language Roast" crusade that is all I had on hand, added i-1/2 cups of red wine to deglaze pan later I added the tomato paste (a flake more than called for), added way more carrots, mushrooms and garlic (cause I have a big eatin family), added "quartered" ruby potatoes most i-one/two hrs prior to turning the crock pot off (because I was lazy and didn't feel like making mashed). I turned crock pot on lowest setting and cooked all 24-hour interval YUM YUM!! Also, no fresh spices that twenty-four hours so I used dry. I am not a lover of THYME, so I volition exit that out next time haha(PERSONAL Selection!!!). As well I ever add more spice than recipes call for, just because we like a LOT of spice!! Next day, served dish with spetzle and OMG was it GOOOOOOD! Cheers Chef John for another GREAT RECIPE! LOVE YOU MUCH :) and Bon Appétit!
08/x/2012
So easy and very practiced! The beef was and then juicy and tender - information technology fell off my fork! Nosotros didn't accept all the vegetables and then we added broccoli and I also added potatoes, because I couldn't imagine pot roast due west/o potatoes!
04/xv/2012
Delicious! Looking for a good home cooked beef meal? Thank you Chef John.
06/09/2013
Five stars for tasting adept and for being a boring cooker recipe that doesn't accept canned soup or any other processed food. I have had such a difficult fourth dimension finding tiresome cooker recipes with whole food ingredients, and I volition employ this i every bit a guide to experiment with as I attempt to aggrandize my slow cooker repertoire. Attempt this instead of the one with 2,000+ reviews that does no more than than throw a tin can soup and a seasoning package (both loaded with msg, cholesterol, and preservatives) into the crockpot. It tastes way amend, it's way healthier, and it only takes about 10 more than minutes to put together. I am not a fanatic when information technology comes to eating "naturally," but I do like to eat real food.
01/xix/2014
I commonly make pot roast in a cooking purse, but tried this recipe for a modify. Nosotros were delighted with the tenderness of the pot roast, and it made a nice gravy after I removed all the yum-yums once the meat had been removed. I added cut-upwards potatoes with about 90 minutes left to brand certain they were done and that worked out well. The cooked-downward celery made a slap-up topping over the meat after carving it. Next time I remember I'll try beef stock vs chicken stock, only to see of it's whatever better. Recommended!
04/ten/2012
This was fantastic! my girl wanted seconds! :) Wait forward to making it once more...and over again. Thanx!
06/17/2013
This is Fashion labor intensive and really didn't merit all the work. I'll stick with my basic broth and Italian seasoning over a beefiness roast with cut-up veggies in a crock pot. Takes 1/iv of the time and the flavour is better.
03/18/2012
Wow what a proficient, easy, and wonderfully comfort food dish! I fed our family and the neighbors on this delightful mean.
10/07/2012
I usually love Chef John's recipes, but this one left me kind of flat. I was trying to discover a fashion to use my boring cooker that didn't involve cream of (fill in the blank) soup. I believe the flour on the meat created sort of a messy consistency to the sauce at the end. Also, this is a rather greasy cut, and the boiling that takes place in the slow cooker simply distributes all the fatty into the other ingredients. I prefer a deadening oven roast. The meat was tender, and I had plenty of sauce using just i and 1/ii c. of BEEF goop. In fact, I retrieve my 5 quart cooker would accept overflowed with 2 and 1/ii c. of liquid.
08/eleven/2014
My kickoff time making beef pot roast. I have decided to add together potatoes along with a impact of fish sauce for deeper tasting. Information technology is soooooo gooooood. I volition make information technology again. Thank you for the slap-up recipe!!!
01/25/2014
Just OK, I didn't notice whatsoever difference in flavour from when I would just salt and pepper the meat and throw in some carrots. Really, I thought the celery merely doesn't belong with roast beefiness.
11/30/2012
I knew right abroad that this recipe was from an experienced chef. If you desire the flavor you have to take a few actress moments and steps to sear the meat, saute the onions etc.etc. The end result is that a commonly tough piece of meat has been tenderized and the combinations of flavors is astonishing. The merely thing I did differently was I used home made organic beef broth (cause I had information technology) and red wine. (also I take the fourth dimension to melt my mushrooms in butter till they are dark-brown and crusted with sea common salt then add the wine and scrape up the tasty bits) OOOh La La!!!!
02/23/2014
Really very skilful recipe. Used beefiness broth instead of chicken broth, and stale herbs instead of fresh... And boneless rather than bone in... Its still was fantastic! The prep is very of import... Makes all the difference I believe. Thx for posting!
08/24/2014
Thank you for a lovely change to my boring pot roast recipe. I used a large London Broil and cooked some small organic potatoes separately in a light chicken goop. Since my roast was only 3 lbs, I had room to add them at the cease. Meat has become so expensive, and beingness a fitness nut, my kids love when I add potatoes to anything. It helped stretch my budget. But loving the mushrooms. (I likewise pulled the meat autonomously when it was done. Keeps the meat with the meal. Another budget stretching flim-flam.)
08/09/2014
Growing upward, pot roast was a Sunday dinner staple. Information technology always smelled delicious, but it really didn't taste like much of annihilation. So, for years I was anti pot roast!! I stumbled upon this recipe a couple of years agone and now this is in our regular dinner rotation. I make this recipe completely as written and would non modify a affair. Thanks Chef John!
03/30/2012
Delicious!
09/23/2013
Very practiced recipe! I did change it though. Mostly because I tin can't have pot roast with out potatos. The rest of the tomato paste would have been wasted if I only used one TBS of information technology, aforementioned with chicken broth. Modifications: 1. I used less than 5 lbs pot roast and it was boneless. 2. I added potatoes. 3. I put the whole small can of tomato paste and whole box of chicken broth in and added more flour. 4. I used dry rosemary and thyme. (all i had). Those are minor changes for a pot roast. It was very good and I've made it twice so far. I go far at dark, cook till morning, then reheat in crockpot for dinner. Unproblematic and delish!
05/24/2012
I used a 3 lb rump roast (had on hand) and used the remainder of ingredients as listed. I didn't have fresh rosemary or thyme, and so I put 1 teaspoon of each in the mushroom sauce. I cooked information technology on high for three hours then 4 hours on low...yet wasn't fork tender, so I put it on high again for another 1 1/two hours. Finally started falling apart (it was a pretty thick piece of meat). Taste was awesome, just it did need more than common salt. Served over egg noodles. Thanks for a slap-up recipe!
03/27/2012
this is Best pot roast recipe ever!! The only changes I made was to stop cooking in the oven instead of the irksome cooker (I didnt have a lot of time. I as well seasoned information technology with a little meat tenderizer. My married man and I enjoyed every bite. This is a keeper.
10/12/2014
Splendid! Followed the recipe every bit written with the exception of using dried herbs instead of fresh. Using my faithful Dutch Oven, I baked this, covered, at 300 degrees for several hours - adding the carrots and celery later on the first hour. Served with mashed potatoes -very tender and tasty - thanks, Chef John !
03/21/2012
This was and so practiced, the whole family loved it...even my kids (two and five)! Thanks for the recipe and video, Chef John!
04/fifteen/2012
Very expert - I did modify it a flake - I left out the mushrooms and carrots considering I didn't have any on paw. And I used a boneless cut and dried herbs. Merely information technology was very tasty and a big hit with the family. I strained the juices and thickened them a fleck with a flour/milk mixture to make gravy and served with mashed potatoes.
09/11/2013
Wow!! This is an incredible recipe. I used a 3 pound boneless chuck and it melted in our mouths. It fabricated a delicious gravy as well. I followed the recipe exactly and served information technology with boiled potatoes. My family unit couldn't go enough.
09/08/2013
One word: Amazing. I didn't change one thing- followed it every footstep- and it was flawless. This will be my go-to recipe for pot roast. Thank you so much for sharing!!
05/24/2013
Splendid! I prefer to cut the beef into chunks about 3in cube. This fashion you can go the seasonings and flour on all sides. Yous can add a half-loving cup of burgundy vino for "bourginon" flavor.
09/07/2014
The primal was definitely in searing the meat. Best pot roast I have done and then far, amazingly tender meat and vegetables. I volition definitely make information technology again. Cheers chef!
10/twenty/2012
No i believed that this was my first fourth dimension making pot roast. The meat was tender and flavorful, just how it should be!
09/19/2013
If I don't want to use onions, do I notwithstanding put the butter in?
09/05/2014
This was my get-go attempt at making pot roast and it was perfection over mashed potatoes! I couldn't discover a bone-in chuck roast then I used boneless and it was fantastic. My boyfriend said it may be his favorite meal ever.
04/22/2012
A picayune bland..
03/10/2013
This Boring Cooker Beef Roast recipe was wonderful! We are living in South Korea for the next yr, so this was a wonderful "feel like home" dinner. Since beef is so expensive here, we were fortunate to be visiting relatives at Kunsan Air Force Base, where we were able to get some U.S. beefiness. Thinking I had everything now to brand a wonderful dinner, I realized that I did not have any love apple paste, then I decided to substitute it with a teaspoon of Korean 'hot pepper paste.' WOW...now that gave it a kick. I didn't have whatsoever celery, and so I used carrots and potatoes on the bottom. About 10 minutes before we were ready to eat, I added some Korean dumplings to the top of the roast and simmered them in the juices. Needless to say...It was a hit with my hubby and neighbor. If you can't be at home, you can sure brand the all-time of it with this recipe. Thanks Chef John!!!
09/09/2013
My showtime even pot roast. Admittedly delicious! Worth the await! My husband loves it. It's a healthier version than using dry onion soup mix and canned cream of mushroom soup. Two thumbs upwards! :)
09/12/2012
I followed this recipe exactly. This is honestly the all-time deadening cooker roast I've always eaten. My husband literally didn't talk for 5 minutes and licked the plate clean. Cheers for the PERFECT recipe - piece of cake to follow and delicious results!
08/27/2014
Admittedly amazing--finger licking good. I will definitely make this recipe once again.
09/01/2014
I fabricated this today and information technology was delicious. The delicious odor tempted united states all twenty-four hour period while information technology cooked. I cut up my meat (a nice slab of chuck roast) and seasoned it with all the seasonings in the recipe plus powdered onion and garlic since I detest the texture of the "real" things in my mouth. It was so skilful that I forgot to take a picture! And then mine is of the tiny flake of leftovers in a plastic container :) so yummy!
04/29/2012
I was looking for a pot roast recipe I could adjust for my Mom'due south gluten intolerance and this was it! I used corn starch instead of flour and left out the mushrooms every bit my married man doesn't similar them. I will make those separately with bacon and onion. Added almost 1/four cup cerise vino and homemade craven stock. It smells divine! I will too brand mashed potatoes, creamed spinach and boston lettuce with sour cream herb dressing---super YUM for a sunday dinner.
11/20/2012
YUM!! I especially liked the flavour of the mushroom gravy/sauce. It tastes similar to Campbell'southward Golden Mushroom soup, which is not e'er available at the store. I call back I'll use this recipe from now on. Information technology'due south fifty-fifty improve and you tin control the amount of common salt, and other ingredients. I as well used a smaller chuck roast, without a os. Information technology was so tender. I removed the roast from the crock pot at about 7 hours. I as well was cooking small red potatoes which I removed from the pot at about 4 hours. (If I was not going to be at domicile, I would not put the potatoes in for the full day.) Typically, I add bay leafage to pot roast, but did not miss it at all with this recipe. I loved it Chef. Keep them coming!!
08/05/2012
Pretty good!
01/19/2014
This is the 3rd fourth dimension I have fabricated this recipe. It is by far the best pot roast recipe I have always made. Full of flavour and the gravy is great over mashed potatoes. I agree that searing the beefiness is key. The tomato paste adds that fiddling something and sautéing the onion garlic and mushrooms adds a lot of flavor. I also sautéed the celery. This is a permanent part of my recipe box. Thanks for the keen recipe.
12/12/2013
Unfortunately I wasn't all that impressed with the dish even though I not only followed the instructions but when I found it defective in gustatory modality I added some more herbs. Too the gravy was thin. I did nonetheless enjoy it the post-obit day when I added more veg and thickened the gravy. I did expect more taste especially after taking the time to dark-brown etc on the stove first. Information technology is and then interesting to read other reviews then have expectations non met.
03/06/2014
Love information technology!! I really try to stay away from canned or packaged soups and this pot roast turned out groovy. Chef John did it again!! Give thanks you!
02/25/2014
Chef John you've outdone yourself with this one. Absolutely amazing and tender pot roast.
02/06/2014
This was very good. Made as directed with the addition of extra herbs towards the end and put potatoes in during the last one hr 1/2. I happened to make information technology on a night of a huge winter tempest here and THE only piece of meat left in the store was iii.5lb top roast. I HATE carrots. These are excellent in the slow cooker for hours in the gravy. Melt in your oral cavity good, then if you lot have kids who won't eat their carrots, endeavor this.
07/09/2014
Oh. My. GOSH! This is the best pot roast I've ever had (deplorable, mom). The just pain is that you have to cook the onions and sauce earlier mitt which makes information technology hard to practice on a weeknight. I made the sauce the nighttime before and kept it in a separate container in the fridge. In the morn, I poured the sauce over it and and then put tiny Yukon Gilded potatoes on acme (I accept a small crock pot). I put it on low for about 3 1/2 hours and when I got abode, I turned it on high for some other 4 hours. Remember, mine was cold from beingness in the fridge. It was perfect. The meat is crazy tender and the potatoes were soft without being mushy. Will definitely make again - hopefully I don't lose is recipe!
04/nineteen/2012
Fantastic! Served over hot buttered spiral noodles seasoned with garlic pulverisation. Also, had it with a side of cottage cheese with fresh chives mixed in. Wonderful compliment to it ~ Kids and Hubby loved it. Sharing with all of the ladies at piece of work! Thanks
01/07/2014
Served this for visitor. It was fine, but didn't stand up out enough for me to program to make again. Followed the recipe.
01/04/2014
It turned out adept, merely like some others, I didn't really taste the spices at all (me having to use salt and pepper later the meal is cooked....rare for me!); thus why I gave it three stars instead of iv or 5. We followed the recipe almost to a T...we omitted the mushrooms out of personal preference, and added some sliced potatoes, because having a roast without slow cooked potatoes but didn't seem right. Just thank y'all for the recipe anyways!
12/16/2014
AMAZING POT ROAST!!! I Volition Get in ALL THE Fourth dimension Like THIS!! no soup mix or pot roast seasoning bundle. And perfectly seasoned!!! Only had to add a compression of salt when I served it but its meliorate to add to the the roast rather then being overly salty when its done!! It turned out amazingly tender!!! the flavor was fantastic! I used babe portabellos for the mushrooms and information technology gave the roast a nice rustic flavor! my hubby ate 2 servings!! My two yr erstwhile son even ate it and my 4 twelvemonth one-time daughter loved it! Dandy RECIPE!! If I could requite it ten stars I would!!!
12/17/2014
This made a very tender roast with amazing gravy--I used beefiness goop instead of chicken. If I made this once more, I would decrease the cooking time or cook on depression. My roast came out quite dry. I only cooked information technology on high for 4 hours, then switched to depression for 2 hours, but I gauge I still let it cook too long.
10/04/2014
Can I offer my ain variation of pot roast? Just fabricated this past calendar week for a company dinner. Used a tin can of ale, cream of mushroom soup;onions, potatoes, multi-coloured carrots; lots of italian seasoning;i package onion soup mix( instead of salt) 5-6 cloves of garlic; rosemary and bay leaves(removed afterwards three hours)five-6 squishes of Heinz Spice Ketchup: and almost ¼ c maple syrup! And yep, altered seasoning as it cooked on high for about half-dozen-seven hours. Made oodles of gravy and meat was tender and very yummy! The vegs were wonderful. Served with asparagus which I roasted with olive oil and parmesan cheese. Improvising sometimes actually works!

I just made this and it was fantastic. My roommates loved it. The only complaint I had was that prep actually took an hr. I'k either not very experienced or I forgot to hire someone to pre-cutting everything. Aside from that I highly recommend it.

OMG! I'g not a beef eater usually, but my roommate is, so I bought a blade roast on sale. I followed the recipe, only substituting the chicken broth for vegetable goop (it's all I had on manus), and it turned out perfectly. I made a plate upwardly for my neighbor who was feeling ill, and I got a voice bulletin from her saying only this: 'YUM,YUM,YUM,YUM,YUM,YUM...!' I served garlic mashed potatoes with the gravy and it was succulent. The browning of the meat made all the departure, I remember. Give thanks you for posting this!

I followed this recipe to the alphabetic character. It was so easy and I actually had fun making information technology. I am Non someone who y'all would call a melt. In fact, I am nearly as novice every bit they come up. Because of an injury that has me out of work, I have taken over the cooking in my house. I have always been able to cook the unproblematic dishes, just, now that it is my duty, I have had to step it up. This being said, I tin't stress enough how EASY this recipe was to brand. Everybody in the house says that this was the ABSOLUTE BEST POT ROAST that they had Ever HAD. Tin can't wait to try it again.

Some other winner from Chef John! I made this exactly as written, except my roast was just over 2 lbs. and I didn't have fresh herbs, so I used three/iv tsp each of rosemary and thyme. I also added a picayune Montreal steak seasoning to the table salt and pepper earlier I seared the meat. I cooked it for 6-7 hours on high. It was succulent.

Absolutely delicious! I used boneless chuck roast and doubled the amount of mushrooms. My family is asking for this meal again this week.

I am certain this is a five star as is. However, I did brand some modification. I used ii cups low sodium beef broth and a cup of red wine instead of the chicken broth. I used a a boneless roast. It came out amazing! It takes just a little more effort than some recipes but then worth it.

I wanted comfort nutrient and this recipe delivered. Pot roast is a favorite of mine amd this was so easy to put together. It was reaIly uncomplicated to prepare. The but deviation, I was making for a weeknight dinner and so I cooked information technology on low for nearly ten hours. It was so tender and delicious. I served with mashed potatoes, carrots and sauteed spinach. Definitely will be working this into my rotation, I forgot what great weeknight meals you can make with a slow cooker. Thanks Chef John!

Loved this recipe, and have made it at least 12 times then far, and after trying to make it better i've done practiced things and non so skillful things. First, heavily season the meat before the sear, try using larger chunks of table salt if y'all can. 2nd, Use peanut oil instead of vegetable oil, gives you a better sear, and tastes better in the final product. 3rd, add additional salt, you tin try different things, i add virtually a tablespoon of soy sauce, but its up to you. Exercise not add more than 1 tablespoon of tomato paste, this will make the roast taste sweetness, and the meat will flop autonomously. make sure the meat stays in the slow cooker for the full fourth dimension frame, even if you do get a boneless chuck roast, and always de-fat the roast before serving. This final affair is just something i've noticed, try to use a smaller pan for the sear, I use a 10", helps hold in the wet as the oestrus drops less when the meat is added (you'll notice less bleeding in the pan).

Very tasty. Had never made a pot roast before, and information technology turned out wonderful. I only wished I had started making it at about 9 in the morning, so I could accept let it cook in the crockpot for some other hour or so to see if the meat would be even more tender and yummy. Cheers for the recipe and video! My family loved information technology :)

I tried this for the kickoff fourth dimension today and it was wonderful. I added corn starch to the left over juices and it fabricated the about delicious gravy; no additional seasoning necessary. I didn't change a thing and will be keeping information technology for future employ!

Very succulent !! I cooked at the conventional oven for 4 hours on a 250F temperature. It was very tender and moisture. Added more than salt and pepper in the stop. Added also all more thyme and rosemary in the middle of time.
09/18/2014
Fantastic. I added turnips just other than that would not change a affair! If you similar roast on the medium rare side I would decrease the fourth dimension to iv - 4 1/2 hrs.

Made information technology today and it was the all-time!!!! Because I'chiliad Hispanic and dear spices, I made my own rub for the beef other than that followed every step. It was tender, flavorful and the gravy according to my hubby was PERFECT!!!

Expert for the tenderness of the meat and vegetables, simply 'light' on the flavor. Using beef stock or beef stock and red vino would definitely make it richer. Adding a bouquet garnet for subtle earthy tones could besides exist a plus. Easy to follow, hearty a
